Supporting
the project
The Yorkshire Dales Landscape Appeal

Dame Judi Dench, Woodland Trust supporter says:
“I can't imagine the Yorkshire Dales without woodland. Woods frame this beautiful landscape, acting as a sanctuary for a great variety of wildlife. It worries me to know that bit by bit this precious woodland is disappearing. By supporting the Woodland Trust everyone can play an important part in revitalising it before it's too late."

Over the years, changes in farming, and grazing by sheep, have led to the steady loss of trees and woodland in the Dales. Now the Dales have a mere 1% covering of native woodland and much of what’s left may head the same way unless we all take positive action right now.
A chance to turn things round
Thanks to two generous legacies, we’ve launched a groundbreaking project – The Yorkshire Dales
Landscape Project. This is a scheme to repair and secure the beauty of the Dales by tackling the problem
of their disappearing woods and trees. It’s an ambitious project and we’re counting on donations from everyone who loves the Dales.
How will it work?
Over the next two years we will focus our attention on places in the Dales where woods and trees need a helping hand to thrive. This could mean purchasing ancient woodlands, planting new trees to connect woods, repairing fences and walls to keep sheep out of dying woodland, or protecting young trees from weeds. We will work in partnership with local people and we will make the money go as far as possible.
But we desperately need more money to make a real difference.

Wildlife
The health of the Dales’ remaining woodland is essential for the survival of much of its wildlife. Every bit of woodland repair work we carry out will benefit wildlife – not just our native species, but migratory birds as well.
|
 |
Working with local people
We will use your money to fund woodland schemes put forward by local people and we’ll keep the work local.
In this way, the scheme will contribute to rural life in the Dales.

Making your money work for woodland
Thanks to legacy donations and various grant schemes, we can make your money go a long way. On average we can turn every pound you give into three pounds for woods and trees in the Dales.
|
We’re planning on spending over half a million pounds on halting the loss of trees in the Dales. Thanks to two generous legacies left to the Trust by by Mr Sidney Clifford Webb and Mrs Anne Appleton and various grants, we’re over half way towards this target, but we’re counting on individuals, like you, to help us find the remaining £200,000.

We have produced 500 6"X4"prints of Ashley’s work ‘The Beauty of Inheritance’
. The Trust will give these, along with an attractive certificate to the first 500 people who donate £150, or more to the appeal. |
