Wentwood Forest

Restoration work

Jon Winder, one of the Trusts’ woodland officers, is now responsible for the management of the site.

The massive task of restoring the great Forest of Wentwood, Wales’ largest planted ancient woodland site (PAWS), will start gradually.

Early in 2006, one hundred local people helped plant six hectares of native trees in a clear-felled area and work will take place during autumn 2006 to thin conifers, allowing more light reach the forest floor and benefiting the native woodland flora.

Initial plans for the restoration of Wentwood are now being drawn up and are due for publication early in 2007. Local people and other interested parties were also given the chance to participate in discussions on the proposed management plan during a series of locally held consultations.
