1 million books recycled supports Woodland Trust

The recycling of 1 million books has raised enough money for the Woodland Trust to plant hundreds of trees.

Each time you log onto Internet book recycling store GreenMetropolis.com and make a purchase a small donation is made to the Trust, which has added up to thousands of pounds.

The web site features hundreds of books which users can purchase for £3.75, including free delivery on all paper backs.

Customers have the option to sell the books back at £3 once they have read them, or alternatively customers can put any books cluttering up their homes on sale and receive payment once they sell.

Fundraiser Sue East, from the Woodland Trust, said: “This scheme is so innovative because it not only encourages people to recycle books but also raises money for the charity to plant trees.

“Reaching the 1 millionth book recycled is a fantastic achievement and will have stopped a significant amount of paper from being dumped on landfill, which is good for the environment and helps the fight against climate change.”
