Need a speaker to talk to your group? Well look no further…

If you are a member of a club, society or other organisation and you arrange talks and presentations for your group why not consider an illustrated talk by a Woodland Trust volunteer speaker and let them take you on a voyage of discovery through woodlands all over the UK.

We have an excellent group of volunteer speakers willing to give illustrated talks about our work to a wide variety of audiences.

What are the talks about?

Talks given by our enthusiastic and experienced speakers take the form of a 40 - 45 minute projection presentation and are usually followed by a session for questions and answers. These interesting and informative talks will include images from some of our beautiful woodland sites and speakers also bring along a selection of information leaflets for group members to take away.

Our speakers will soon be able to offer a diverse range of woodland talks. At present there are two key talks available and here’s a flavour of what each covers.

Keeping Woodland Alive – the work of the Woodland Trust

  • An introduction to the Woodland trust
  • Why does woodland matter?
  • What is broadleaved woodland and what is ancient woodland?
  • Management techniques (pollarding, coppicing etc)
  • Key threats to ancient woodland
  • Keeping Woodland Alive - our plan of action
  • Preventing further loss of ancient woodland
  • Restoring and improving woodland biodiversity
  • Creating new native woodland
  • Woodland acquisitions
  • Our campaigns
  • How people can get involved
Ancient Tree Hunt
  • Keeping Woodland Alive the Woodland Trust and its main objectives
  • What is an ancient tree?
  • Why are ancient trees important?
  • What are the threats to ancient trees?
  • How can we protect ancient trees?
  • The Ancient Tree Hunt
  • How to measure and record ancient trees
  • Learning resources

I’d like to arrange a talk – what facilities do I need?

To accommodate a talk you will need the following:

  • A venue large enough to comfortably accommodate both your audience and a speaker with projection equipment
  • A projection screen or plain white wall on which to project
  • Tables for leaflets and for a projector
  • Black-out facilities if your talk is to be held during daylight hours
  • Adequate time needs to be available on the day of the talk. The presentations generally last for around 40 - 45 minutes and cannot usually be altered in length.

Our speakers can accommodate audiences of up to 100+ people. There is no set fee for a talk, but we ask that you are willing to cover the cost of our volunteers' travel expenses and consider making a donation to the Trust of roughly £1 per audience head – minimum £25 to cover administration costs.

** Please allow plenty of time for booking your talk. As a ‘minimum’ the date of your talk should not be less than two weeks from the date of your request **
