Scottish
Forest Alliance
The Scottish Forest Alliance is a novel collaboration between BP,
Forestry Commission Scotland, RSPB Scotland and the Woodland Trust
Scotland, to undertake sustainable forest management projects in
Scotland.
|
The Aims of SFA - the collaboration will: |
Regenerate and expand native woodland in Scotland |
Contribute towards UK targets for forest and woodland biodiversity |
Promote social and economic gains for local communities |
Seek to determine the contribution of the projects to carbon
sequestration in Scotland |
The Alliance has
benefited from a £10 million funding pledge from BP – the biggest ever-
corporate commitment to the environment in Scotland. It has potential to
create up to 10,000 hectares of new native woodland in Scotland over the
next 10 years.
The Alliance has enabled the Trust to acquire new sites in the Ochils –
Glen Quey, Glen Sherup and Geordie’s Wood to create new native woodland,
and extend an existing project at Glen Finglas in the Trossachs.
