Object to the second runway at Stansted
BAA has submitted its planning application for a second runway at
Stansted airport, despite the fact that the Secretary of State has
not yet announced her decision on their previous application to
increase passenger numbers at the airport. BAA are claiming that the
proposals take up less land and destroy less woodland. The proposals
do cover a slightly smaller land area, but the same amount of
ancient woodland is would be lost or damaged if the proposals were
to go ahead.
What is proposed
As expected BAA want to build a second runway to the east of the
existing runway. The plans threaten five ancient woodland sites:
Philipland Wood, Pigeon Wood, The Wilderness, Round Coppice and
Priory Wood. All of these sites would be damaged or destroyed
directly by these plans.
