Fields

Ancient oak in a field at Brockworth, Glocs.

Ancient trees can be found as relicts in the middle of fields. In arable fields ploughing too close to the tree is believed to be very damaging to the roots. Fertilisers and herbicides are thought to affect the mycorrhizal fungi associated with the trees roots.
