| This ancient oak has a dbh of 12.5 m
making it one of the fattest ancient trees in Europe. It has quite a few
problems according to Martin Nemec a Czech arborist who has been
commissioned to provide some advice on how to care for it.
It is belted and braced, has a copper roof and with very heavy visitor
pressure suffers from root compaction.
Neville Fay (Treeworks) recommends an Individual Tree Management Plan for
starters. He suggests working on one limb at a time with very gentle tip
pruning because the tree looks in such a poor condition from the photos.
Then depending on the trees reaction undertaking further retrenchment
pruning over a long time period.
