ATF call for the national emblem of the Basque Country to be a pollard.

One of the top places in Europe to see landscapes full of pollards must be in the counties of Gipuzkoa, Navarra and Alava in North East Spain. Add to this the beautiful and spectacular scenery, cuisine equal if not better than France and plenty of rioja, this part of Europe must be one of the best kept secrets in Europe. And our welcome by local people was the warmest one could hope for anywhere.

There are just so many pollards and ancient trees to see in this region that Ted Green recommended that the Basque regional symbol should be changed to a ‘trasmocho’ as they call them in Spanish or better still a mugarratua as they are called in the Basque language.
