Bowthorpe oak – sadly this magnificent tree loses a limb in recent storms.

19th November 2002
The Tree Register reports that the tree has lost 25% of its crown.

Storm damage to Bowthorpe OakOne of the greatest British trees the Bowthorpe Oak in Lincolnshire, lost one of its major limbs during the storm of Sunday 26th October. Some 25% of its crown was lost as violent gusts struck the tree and tore the limb to the ground, causing other parts to collapse into its hollow centre.

Owners of the land Mr and Mrs Blanchard were distraught when they saw the damage and expert advice is being sought to help preserve one of our most famous veteran trees.
